This progression from "parties are failing us/congress is failing us" to "I'm going to vote down everything to shrink government" probably won't address the central issues that led to their electoral victory in the first place. It will be interesting to see where this sentiment is at in 2014, 2016 and 2018 and if this will change how legislation is proposed and voted on.

Re: The Internet Defense League

Looking forward to seeing the "IDL" signal light shining into the DC sky around U St.

Re: Klein: Why our System is so Broken

Looking forward to reading it--and seeing what can be done to break through the "motivated reasoning."

Re: Klein: Why our System is so Broken

If you move the system to a winner-doesn't-take-all system then the groups won't be as threatened by each other and there'd be room for dissent from the party orthodoxies on both sides and the party orthodoxies themselves would become more dynamic as a result!

Re: WI: A Different Read

100% agree. The partisanship from the Union side supporters went so far beyond mere aggressive campaigning. I think the State Senators who fled rather than take a fair loss set a new and very unfortunate low for legislators. That act of denying a quorum was profoundly undemocratic and unpatriotic. I suspect that many WI voters came to realize that their own legislators had a far greater loyalty to the unions than they did to their own constituents.

Re: Americans Elect- The Day After

If you had supported NIFTYTAX.com .... a concept for tax and entitlement reform .... the results would have been different!

Re: Americans Elect- The Day After

Why not try to fix it?

http://anewkindofparty.blog...

The kicker is that your system wasn't well designed to get a final winner.

So find a transparent reliable way to get the most centristic solution from among your 7 top contenders...
dlw

Re: Americans Elect- The Day After

I hope that Americans Elect continues to exist and that it shifts its focus to the 2013, 2014 and 2016 election cycles. However, I doubt that many people really watch the conventions any more. Most of us who would watch are already committed to the candidate. All the disadvantages to holding a convention in a state that is so anti-union, anti-choice, anti-everything probably outweigh any advantage.

Re: Ruck.us in Mashable

I came here from Mashable. In fact there are many instances where it would be preferable for President Obama to cut ties with old politics. We are at a place in the political dynamic that begs for a new direction, and the additional payoff would be how it would completely disorient the Repubs. Pointing out what a waste of money it would be definitely grabs the indies, and a lot of party faithfuls would probably go for it too.

Re: Ruck in Action: NORML

Vote anti-reform politicians out on their spineless asses!

Re: Ruck in Action: NORML

Gotta crawl before you walk..Maybe Reform would be better accepted in dialog with the Lawmakers
